The Chairperson of the African Union Commission receives a number of delegations attending
the Kampala Summit
On the sidelines of the 15th AU Summit the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr.
Jean PING received on 25 and 26 July 2010, a number of delegations invited to the Summit
including those of the European Commission, the United Nations and the United States.
During these meetings, the Chairperson discussed with his interlocutors issues of mutual
interest and the main items on the agenda of the Summit including the situation in Somalia.
The meeting with the delegation of the European Commission, led by the Commissioner for
Development, Mr. Andris PIEABALGS, focused on the preparations for the Third Africa‐EU
Summit scheduled to be held in Libya on 29 and 30 November 2010. Both sides agreed to work
closely to ensure adequate preparations for this important event.
During the meeting with UN delegation led by the Deputy Secretary General, Mrs. Asha‐Rose
MIGIRO, the emphasis was on the need for the two organization to further strengthen their
partnership in the fields of development, peace and security. Mrs. Migiro reiterated to the
Chairperson the commitment of the UN Secretary General to closely working with him on the
different issues of concern to Africa.
While meeting with the US Attorney General, Eric HOLDER, who led the American delegation,
the Chairperson expressed the deep appreciation of the African Union Commission to President
Barack Obama for his message to the Kampala Summit in which he reiterated his commitment
to continue to work in partnership and in common cause with the African Union to achieve its
goals and fulfill its mission.
