Bangui, 12 August 2015 – The Head of United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), Babacar Gaye, submitted his resignation to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, on 12 August 2015, upon his request.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations paid tribute to Babacar Gaye and expressed his gratitude for “his tireless efforts in support of peace, security and reconciliation over the course of a long and distinguished career – most recently, in the Central African Republic under extremely challenging circumstances and throughout an unprecedented crisis”. Under his leadership, MINUSCA achieved its full operational capability on 28 April 2015, one year after its creation.
Babacar Gaye was appointed Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office in the Central African Republic (BINUCA) on 12 June 2013. It is within the continuity of these functions that he has been appointed on 16 July 2014 to lead the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic.
